Cost Engineer

The Cost Engineer is responsible for management and execution of the change management, financial analysis, and reporting functions necessary to establish both current costs and forecasting for projects. Participates in daily activities relating to cost and accounting functions that are necessary for a positive financial outcome. 

Explore your tasks and responsibilities

  • Provides financial analysis, budgeting and reporting for the project, including the preparation of monthly reports 
  • Reviews monthly subcontractor payments and owner billings and participates in the creation and tracking of change orders 
  • Prepares cost, time and labor estimates, equipment and material projections, and productivity trend reporting. Provides analysis on key operations to accurately forecast these costs to determine expected financial outcome 
  • Assists with tracking project contingencies  
  • Participates in the creation of the payment applications and understands its connection with the job cost report and key indicators 
  • Audits project billings against Oracle, Prolog and billings to the owner 
  • Participates in Project Reviews with the Project Manager and Project team 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Show your expertise

  • High School Diploma or GED required 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Engineering or related field preferred 
  • Certified Cost Consultant (CCC) preferred 
  • Certified Cost Engineer (CCE) preferred 
  • Program Management Certification (PgMP) preferred 
  • 5+ years of experience 
  • Demonstrated experience in deployment of a work breakdown structure for use in cost engineering for EPCC projects 
  • Experience on Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning (EPCC) projects is required 
  • Experience on EPCC projects over $100M is highly desirable 
  • Demonstrated high degree of foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving project cost abnormalities 
  • Experience with Prolog and Oracle EPM financial systems 
  • Proven track record of hands on experience in project cost controls with acumen to support project execution and corporate requirements 
  • Ability to analyze, communicate, recommend, implement and report cost information to various audiences including subcontractors, project staff, corporate leadership, and project controls functional leadership 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Exceptional organization and coordination skills 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.) 
  • Basic understanding of Project Controls and cost management functions 
  • Ability to travel to support both project and corporate needs
