The Lead Designer, Mechanical participates in a team environment consisting of engineers and designers to produce construction documents for the following systems: HVAC wet/dry, plumbing, controls and the like.

Explore your tasks and responsibilities

 

  • Develops mechanical/HVAC/Plumbing construction documents using architectural background layouts and system performance requirements defined by the project team including the architect, engineer and project manager
  • Coordinates with the designs of other trades (architectural and engineering/ internal and external)
  • Participates in pre-design project activities, such as site assessment, site plan review, and verification of as built conditions
  • Works with project team to find optimum system sizing, routing, materials, and space management for ductwork and piping systems
  • Performs equipment selection research and develop recommendations
  • Participates in Services during Construction, including responding to RFIs, shop drawing and submittal review, site observation, preparation of field-issued sketches, participation in construction meetings, and preparation of preliminary and final punch lists, and as-built drawings
  • Executes work within approved budgets, develop progress reports, and interface with clients and others
  • Develops projects in compliance with engineering codes, standards, principles, relevant specifications and contractual requirements
  • Produces construction documents and calculations under the supervision of a Professional Engineer and coordinate with other disciplines
  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
  • Supports business development activities, including preparation of materials for qualifications, proposals, and interviews
  • Mentors interns and junior members of project teams
  • Developments of construction drawings, specifications, details, schedules and diagrams for HVAC, process mechanical and plumbing systems
  • Performs technical tasks using applicable standards, procedures and codes
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
  • Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts
  • Other duties as assigned

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 8+ years of experience
  • Good time management skills, strong work ethic and attention to details
  • Competent in the use Autodesk Building Systems Software
  • Individual must possess strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong team player with an ability to build effective working relationships
  • Energetic and self-motivated
  • Ability to perform calculations: load (Trane Trace and Carrier HAP) pipe stress analysis and pipe flow
  • Associate’s degree with technical focus preferred
