Director Design Operations

The Director Design Operations is responsible for setting Mission, Vision, Strategy, and Tactics for Design Operations with Corporate direction. Will act as the sole point of responsibility for all Architectural and Engineering Design and integrated Design/Build or D/CM operations. Is responsible for developing and maintaining budgets for business operations and maintaining budget goals. Will plan, measure, and report Design Operations cost, schedule, and quality performance across all Design Operations platforms and all projects that include design activities. Will ensure that the overall project design and production process is conducted in the most effective, efficient and technically accurate manner possible in accordance with processes and procedures established for Design Operations and the company.

  • Ensures company safety policies and the Site Specific Plan are proactively communicated and consistently enforced on all projects 
  • Responsible for all Architectural and Engineering Design and integrated Design/Build or D/CM operations 
  • Develops and maintains budgets for business operations and maintain budget goals 
  • Establishes good collaborative relationship with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers 
  • Directs the implementation and development of processes improvement plans for existing processes (Operational, Training, Performance Reviews, etc.) 
  • Coordinates directly with Business Segment Leaders to ensure operational support for their business units and projects 
  • Plans, measures, and reports Design Operations cost, schedule and quality performance across all Design Operations platforms and all projects that include design activities 
  • Ensures that the overall project design and production process is conducted in the most effective, efficient and technically accurate manner possible in accordance with processes and procedures established for Design Operations and the company 
  • Maintains and develops Key Account Customers through appropriate propositions and ethical sales methods and relevant internal liaison, to optimize quality of service, business growth, and customer satisfaction 
  • Plans and prioritizes sales activities, customer, and prospect contact towards achieving agreed business aims, including costs and sales 
  • Attends and presents at customer meetings and internal meetings with other company functions necessary to perform duties and support business development 
  • In coordination with other geographical regions, provides region specific assistance to coordinate client relationship and services 
  • Within the Americas region and in coordination with the Executive Committee, develops and manages product and service mix, pricing and margins according to agreed goals 
  • Responds to and follows up sales inquiries using appropriate methods 
  • Communicates, liaises, and negotiates internally and externally using appropriate methods to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships 
  • Attends training and develops relevant knowledge, techniques, and skills. Designs, directs, and   manages a company-wide process of organization development that addresses issues   such as succession   planning,   superior workforce   development,   key employee   retention, organization design, and change management 
  • Manages  employee  communication   and  employee  feedback  through  such  avenues  as  company meetings, employee satisfaction surveys, newsletter, focus groups, one-one meetings and Intranet use 
  • Directs  a  process  of  organizational  planning  that  evaluates  company  structure,  job  design,  and personnel forecasting throughout the company. Evaluates plans and changes to them. Makes recommendations to senior leaders on how to modify or improve them 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Show your expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering 
  • Master’s degree preferred 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License 
  • 15+ years of experience 
  • Experience in construction design 
  • Strong self-starter and self-directed characteristics 
  • Ability to properly identify, assess and resolve problems and/or issues
  • Exhibits a high sense of personal motivation and urgency 
  • History of developing and sharing best practices 
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining close client relationships 
  • Absolute commitment to ethical business standards 
  • Ability to demonstrate collaborative working relationships with peers and foster the same with direct reports
